Unwinding Traumas - Short Leaved Milkwort flower essence

I've been investigating what it means to unwind trauma and I will speak from my own experience regarding this. Recently I was in a yoga nidra class, preparing my nest for the session. The setting was quite stunning, it was an underground meeting space with beautiful thick wooden beams holding the sky lights. In this subterranean space the earth energy was tangible, quiet and still.

I felt safe and held in this place that was built with such care and reverence. But, slowly I felt my body tense and old concerns seep through my mind and emotions . . . This feeling of ugh this feeling of trauma imprints surfacing again, close to 8 months after narrowly escaping from home which came crashing down in Hurricane Helene.

What was it about this peaceful space I entered? What was it about lying down in stillness welling the guidance to rest? It was the quiet the space created outside of busy which allowed the pain surface. This space outside the normal was not a "safe space" it was still the world and what I carry inside.

Don’t Be Surprised

What I mean is we enter into places which seem delineated separate but even in the space created for yoga nidra there I was with my trauma. It lives with a legacy and it can surprise us long past the initial occurrence, trauma imprints live on in the body and psyche.

To be honest I really should not have been surprised. I know that the safe space is evocative of what is just below the calm surface. I know this from my own inner journey and my in depth work with people over the years. The trauma and the peace co exist - there is no escape but there is possibility for healing.

It starts with awareness. Knowing the current response is a lodged feeling circulating in the present moment. One interesting thing about this experience is it's a reminder of our aliveness, that we are still connected and not cut off. There is no pushing this "away".

In this place we can work with flower essences to support being with what is as we work through trauma imprints as they surface.

An Essence to support being with

There are many essences which can help with trauma. One I want to bring to your attention is Short leaved milkwort flower essence.

This essence supports energetic containment which balances polarized feelings. When trauma imprints surface one may feel frayed, tense, or frozen along with mental disorientation and emotional edginess. In these moments short leaved milkwort can be used to balance extremes and restore emotional clarity. It helps us come back to ourselves and the moment. It restores emotional calm and objectivity.

Short leaved milkwort flower essence supports calm and grounding. It can help reduce reactivity by interrupting loops of worry and fear which is helpful if we are easily startled or frightened. As such it is great for children. This essence can help us access a sense of hope and optimism which expands our sense of possibility.

Short Leaved Milkwort is a core essence in our Trauma Kit. It has been a stellar ally in post trauma support for myself and many others.

This essence works to help shift imprints on chakra 1 and 3. Chakra 1 contains some of our earliest imprints around basic foundational aspects of how we approach life. And, chakra 3 contains imprints around what we perceive we can do. The shifts we make in regards to these two chakras can lead to big changes.
