For the start of the year I've selected Zinnia as the Essence Alchemy flower essence of the month. We've all heard the phrase "laughter is the best medicine". There is truth to this on many levels, from the physical to the mental. Laughter relaxes the body and has been shown to boost immune function. Laughter also decrease stress hormones and improves ones mood.
We live in a culture which promotes an attitude that responsibility and hard work are more important than fun, play, and enjoyment. This messaging pits one against the other. The presupposition is responsibility and fun are in conflict with each other which leads to feeling that humor/play detract from being responsible. In my experience they can be partners in a balanced life and there value to resolving this polarity.
Zinnia flower essence can teach us that we can be responsible and playful at the same time. Use of this flower essence supports finding balance between levity and responsibility. As such I find it to be a widely applicable essence for many people. This is a supportive essence for adults who've had a hard childhood. Zinnia is also wonderful for children who are having difficulty socializing or who appear to be over serious.
