Demystifying “The Secret”

By admin | Comments Off

The big craze in the media driven ‘New Age’, Positive Thinking Movement make getting what you want and living the life you dream seem so effortless.  Book mills and marketing machines would like us to believe that having what we want comes as easily as thinking about it in a positive frame of mind. While this may be true to a certain extent it is not the full picture. And, it doesn’t always turn out that way.

Real World Avoidance
Recently there has been a backlash against positive thinking; those against it claiming it is unrealistic, misleading and possibly dangerous. While one can understand their point in some sense; claiming that it leads to a delusion and prevents people from seeing the world as it “truly” is. If one watches the news and indulges in mass media; it does seem like the world is wretched place filled with violence and hatred; commonly referred to as the “real world”.  The world as it is, the world we are avoiding by indulging in positive thinking.  Those of the positive thought field tell us what we focuses on multiplies  . . . so where does this leave us? Is it delusional to think we could have a better life in the face of the status quo?

Timing
I do believe it is possible and I do believe there is underlying programing in each of us which has created an invisible gap between what we would like to create and what we are creating.  In all fairness I feel it is wise to state the positivity we aim to create and see in the world around us will not happen overnight, heck it may take years even decades, but if we don’t start it will not happen. I am saying this as a hedge against disappointment when things don’t happen in the time frame we would like, persist and they will.

Programing, Reprogramming, Unprogramming
Back to programing; we have all  absorbed thoughts and believes about ourselves and the world that can act as an inhibiting factor.  Lets call this factor X.  Factor X doesn’t easily reveal its self, it is unseen, but it can be uncovered. There are a few ways to do this, one is through self reflection and meditation on the problem we are facing.  This requires a certain honesty with ones self, to really look into who we are and why we do what we do.  During self reflection one will often receive revelations as to the cause of your “problem” act on what you receive to further your progress.

A second way to reveal this factor X is through talking it out with someone, a coach, counselor or friend whose wisdom and guidance you trust.  In my years of working with flower essences I have seen profound changes in people as I helped them reveal to themselves what they already knew.  Talking about a problem or challenge with another is helpful because they aren’t effected by the same emotional blind spots. Our own emotional bling spots are often obvious to other people.

Flower Essences to the Rescue.

Flower Essences
You knew I would be getting to these at some point, heck they are my forte. Combining good counseling with the healing power of the remedies  produces lasting shifts in people in a shorter period of time than without remedies.  I often hear from clients that a few months of flower essence treatment brought them further in their healing journey than years of ‘therapy’.  This is because the healing power of flower remedies nudge out denser vibrations of fear, pain, shame, anger and trauma. Then they usher into the human electrical system lighter healing vibrations which cause subtle and power shifts towards emotional and mental health.

Some emotions to lookout for
Guilt and shame are culprits behind many self destructive habits and can inhibit us in many ways. If guilt is holding you back one can use the Bach remedy of Pine to shift that feeling towards self acceptance, forgiveness and release from blame.  It would also be good to combine Pine with essences that boost esteem and self worth such as Larch, Moneyplant or Missouri Primrose.

The simple and profound powers of flower remedies affect our consciousness, helping us to shift towards new and enlightened ways of  being.

Curb Your Anxiety

By admin | Comments Off

Flower Essence Remedies for treating acute anxiety as well as understanding anxiety in our life. First a list of specific essences and what they are for. At the end of the list anxiety is discussed along with other approaches to addressing anxiety.

Flower Essence Remedies for treating anxiety:

Aspen: for anxiety that descend for unknown reason

Blueberry Cactus: for treating anxiety that leads to sleep disturbances

Blue Vervain:for treating anxiety from overwork, being leaders and role models

Golden Yarrow: helpful with performance anxiety, when felt in the stomach region.

Larch: anxiety related to fear of failure.

Lemon Balm: this remedy helps calm the mind and allows for deeper emotional exploration.

Mimulus: this treats anxiety related to everyday situations, being afraid of everyday situations.

Rescue Remedy: an all around remedy for acute anxiety, stage fright, test taking and so on.

A few strategic essences which may help to corral mental energy and encourage focus.

Indian Pink: this remedy is managing stress during times of intense activity.

Madia: this remedy is for those who are easily distracted.

Rabbitbrush: useful when feeling overwhelmed by details.

Shasta Daisy: this remedy helps us find the whole among bits and pieces of information.

White Chestnut: helps us find inner calm, treats the “chattering” mind: this essence is good to use when an over active mind keeps us from sleeping.

Anxiety of a more distinct emotional origin i.e.. death of a loved one/pet, recent break up or anxiety surrounding love.

Bleeding Heart: this remedy is excellent when for when a relationship has ended.

Borage: this essence facilitates a buoyant heart helping to uplift any heaviness.

Butterfly Weed: this essence is for “love” addiction when anxiety develops from the initial feelings of “falling in love” begin to shift.

Holly: a great remedy to treat jealousy and anxiety with regards to relationships.

Pink Amaranthus: this remedy treats anxiety when in love.

Pretty Face: for anxiety around beauty and physical appearance.

These remedies are presented as starting points to dealing with anxiety. But ultimately the anxiety needs to rooted out and just treated. The basis for anxiety is fear whether conscious or unconscious. Anxiety results when the mental body attempts to suppress information from the emotional body. When parts escape and overwhelms the mind anxiety manifests.

If you are prone to anxiety it is wise to deal with it by gradually uncovering the underlying fear(s), take it slow be kind to yourself. I caution against anti anxiety drugs due to their addictive nature and non therapeutic way of masking anxiety. One cannot simply drug themselves into a healthy state of being.

There are many herbs available to assist with anxiousness, wild oats and lavender are two good ones to consider. Wild oat is nutritive; enriching the nervous system with calcium. Lavender essential oil is widely known to be very calming and soothing for stress and nervousness.

If your anxiety is due to an over abundance of caffeine it would by wise to cut down on this drug. Try green tea instead of coffee, tea contains the amino acid theanine which is a calming agent. With that said I have found it remarkable how flower essences can even assist caffeine induced anxiety. For this Rescue Remedy is good as well as Lemon Balm and Blueberry Cactus.

Spring Time Mallow

By admin | Comments Off

The mallow family of plants is quite large and graces the springtime with soft colored blooms.  Their flowers have been explored as flower essences by a both FES and Delta Gardens. There is a softness to the plant which translates to its healing qualities as a flower essence.  The softness is also evident in the marshmallow candy, originally made from the root of the marshmallow plant.

Soften the Emotional Body
David Dalton of Delta Gardens offers a flower essence of marshmallow which encapsulates softness, it is indicated for a hardening of the emotional body.  A marsh is a watery place and the element of water is associated with the emotions.  The delicate looking flower is white with a purple center.  Its main indication is for helping us to soften our feeling around other people particularly those that we do not like.  The essence also helps us to get in touch with the love vibration when we feel hurt or angry.

Social Security
The mallow essence FES offers has some interesting cross pollination in terms of effects on the personality.  The FES mallow (sidalcea glauscens) is indicated for those that feel socially insecure and fear reaching out to others.  This dovetails nicely with Delta Gardens mallow which helps to soften to those that we do not like.

They both work at clearing the harder feelings around socializing and relationships with others.  They are both work with the second chakra and its relationship to the heart chakra helping to unite the two in greater harmony.  This is a powerful and important function that can assist soul growth on many levels, bringing the gentleness and warmth of the heart into our social sphere.

Making St. John’s Wort flower essence

By admin | Comments Off

St. John’s Wort, a special summer herb, holds an esteemed place in the world of flower essences.  This light filled essences is made from the bright yellow flowers that begin blooming around the summer solstice. The days around the summer solstice are characterized by early sunrises and sunsets that stretch long into the evening. This abundance of light is a key signature of this essence.

In 2006 while attending a flower essences course with David Dalton and Kate Gilday I made an essence from this plant. There were many plants flowering at this time and we were instructed to make an essence of a plant we felt drawn to. I felt myself being guided to a bright yellow flowers of St.John’s Wort.

After making the essences we reconvened and prepared to journey to the plant spirit to seek information on the healing quality of the essence. The journey was led by a drummer and verbal instructions from David. As with most spirit journeys we were told to find a portal near the plant and travel through the portal to meet the spirit.

The journey took me down a portal which led to a garden, it was like and English garden, very neat with rows and a pathway lined with some benches and lanterns. I walked around in this garden looking at the various plants and then sat down on a bench. Soon after sitting down I was greeted by luminous being about 3 feet fall. He told me he was the spirit of St. John’s Wort, I asked if he had a name, he said “John”, of course. I then asked “What does St. John’s Wort flower essence do?”

The spirit jumped up and put his hand on my belly. Upon putting his hand on my stomach a light grew and then spread to encompass my whole body in tight field of light. I could feel a brightness and sense of protection and upliftment from this action. He then sat down next to me, we just sat together on the bench and soon afterwards the drumming changed rhythm and we were lead back to body consciousness.

I related my story to the group and David shared that in his research he discovered that St John’s Wort strengthens the energy field where it connects to the stomach. What I discovered from this plant is that it has a powerful ability to strengthen the human energy field, it tightens the energy field pulling it closer to the body. David recalled that in his research he found that it ‘tightens the filaments of light in our protective field.

The human energy or aura, can be damaged or compromised by stress, ill health, drugs and negative thoughts and feelings. When our field is compromised we may feel tired, unable to focus, experience unexplained fears, disturbed sleep and nightmares. Research by the Flower Essence Society recommends it for people who are overly expanded, thus making them more susceptible to outside influence. This essence has also been used to treat depression related to Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Saint Johns Wort’s unique actions make it a useful essence to have on hand when we need extra support in maintaining the integrity of or energetic field.

Sunflower:One Essence Three Producers

By admin | Comments Off

When investigating an essence it is not uncommon to find different definitions of the same essence by different companies. In this post we will take a deeper look at Sunflower, an essence produced by Delta Gardens, Alaskan Flower Essence Project and Flower Essence Services.

Sunflower

All three companies are respected for their integrity and comprehensive research methods. They also all hail from diverse geographical regions, New England, Northern California and Alaska and offer an expanded perspective of Sunflower.
The sunflower is member of the composite plant family which includes daisies, tansy, chamomile, and echinacea.

Composites are the second largest flowering plant family in the world. They are characterized by round flower heads, surrounded by by petals. Composites with no petals are known as class two composites, they include tansy, moxa and wormwood.  The circular nature of the flowers resembles the sun, the way a child may draw.

Now lets look at the different definitions by the 3 producers:

Delta Gardens- “This essence enhances the ability to project energy outward. Will forces are strengthened along with a persons sense of his or her ability to do things. This essence helps treat fear of success and fear of failure.”

FES- “Balanced sense of individuality, spiritualized ego forces sun radiant personality. Sunflower heals disturbances or distortions in the soul’s relationship to the masculine, often associated with a conflicted or deficient relationship to the father in childhood.”

Alaskan-”The essence of Sunflower strengthens the quality of individuality and brings balance to the process of soul activation on the physical plane. Sunflower helps attract and activate one’s unique spiritual potential in a centered way through the establishment of a grounded, nurturing connection to the earth.”

What we can glean from all three definitions?
The language used by each producer is different, which in a sense reflects their personality and interpritations of the energies of this flower remedy. A common theme among all three is with the will/ego/ individualized consciousness.  The will/ego is our solar force and relates to our masculine side. The sun projects energy, the earth receives this energy and growth is activated.  Sunflower helps us with our own capacity to activate the solar energy in us through our 3rd chakra also known as the solar plexus.

Sunflower essence: Is a strengthener, activator and harmonizer of will forces.
It balances our relationship to the masculine and solar forces within us.

Area of Use:
treating low self esteem or an over inflated sense of self, to help manifest our desires in a tangible way on the earth plane, activate inherent potential, heal disturbances with the masculine and our father or father figures, build confidence stem self sabotage
