The advantage to using a pre-made essence formula is simple, there is no guess work involved. The reputable companies out there all have done due diligence to ensure their product will do what it says. This is good and pre-made formulas do have a general appeal and cover the bases in a general way.  But, that is where their limit is they are confined to addressing the issue in a general way and this may be enough to provide you with the relieve you seek.

But, crafting your own formula allows you to delve into the nuances of your particular situation. This can really shift the dynamics in a big way, because you are now narrowing down your formula to touch on the sensitivity of your issue. The potential here is to take you leaps and bounds beyond what a pre-made formula can do.  I have endeavoured to create a list of essences that is as detailed as possible for each category.
